CLEAN ENERGY

Build Upon Our Position As A Clean Energy Leader

Communities that invest in technological progress are better prepared to capitalize on change.  These are the communities that create the future.

A decade ago, while nearly everyone else clung to old polluting energy sources, Austin invested in clean energy just as we invested in semiconductors, wireless and digital filmmaking. Now, that the world is urgently moving toward a cleaner energy future, Austin is poised to reap the economic gains of being ahead of the curve once again.

Austin’s Pecan Street Project is among the nation’s most ambitious and unique energy collaborations.  In partnership with the University of Texas, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, Austin Energy and the Environmental Defense Fund, Austin is working to invent the energy delivery system of the future.  Its goal – one power plant’s worth of clean energy produced within the city limits – is unique among national projects.  And its collaborative nature and partnership with SEMATECH and companies including Applied Materials, Cisco, Dell, Freescale, IBM, Intel, GE Energy, Gridpoint, Microsoft and Oracle will establish Austin as a real-world laboratory for the technologies that will cleanly power our future.

By partnering with the world’s best minds to innovate in clean energy on the Pecan Street Project, we can innovate in clean energy and put solar on 100,000 Austin homes and businesses over the next 10 years.  That’s not only good for the environment.  Leading with our values will be critical to Austin’s economic future, too.
