Brewster McCracken for Austin Mayor

Eddie Hurst

“I have been appointed to the Construction Advisory Committee for at least five years now by Brewster. While participating on that board I have learned many things about the city’s purchasing procedures and with that knowledge I have worked with other citizens on what was DSMBR and is now SMBR for Small Minority Business Resource. This Department now provides opportunities for Small companies that are not minorities get assistance in winning contracts with the city. I spoke with Brewster constantly because I was changing the issues that the board addressed making the Construction Advisory Committee a body that addressed Fair Wage Compliance and making opportunities for more companies to earn a living providing services and goods to our Municipality.

Being an African American I had a few questions about some of his positions, for example Mid-Town. The night club that had burned down in east Austin that has been a prominent place for community entertainment.

Brewster’s position was instead of providing a forgivable loan for a Night Club why don’t we put that money into a training facility that will provide more substantial benefit for the community. As it turned out, the owner’s of the Mid-Town Live did not need the loan from the city, they just did not want to use their own insurance or cash reserve to rebuild.

There are many reason’s why I support Brewster but the main reason is I think he is a forward thinker with Development and Community Planning as one of his fundamentals in decision making. I also believe he wants to make Austin a Hub for the Solar Energy revolution, that will make many more jobs and business opportunities to this town that I believe will be recession proof once we have established the technology here.”
