Brewster McCracken for Austin Mayor

Jason Mittman

“I am a businessman, I care about keeping our neighborhoods great, I am an avid cyclist, and I care about our planet… and I endorse Brewster McCracken.  I hope you will to.

Over the last few years, I have had the honor of getting to know Brewster McCracken.  I don’t agree with Brewster on every single issue, but with Brewster I know I have a leader who will listen to my concerns, take the time to evaluate all the pros and cons and make a decision that he sticks to.

I am a businessman, but I am also greatly concerned about our environment and protecting our neighborhoods.  Brewster is focused on creating green jobs now, right here in Austin.

Brewster does not just “say” he will do something. I recently heard Brewster and other Austin leaders he invited present to the San Antonio business and political leadership a cooperative approach to building a green collar economy in central Texas.  Brewster recognized that together a regional approach could create more than what could be achieved alone by either Austin or San Antonio.  Did Brewster just add to his “someday” list for a regional partnership? No, he pulled together leaders in TWO cities…and took action…and he’s not even the mayor yet.

Ask most leaders across the country… they will tell you the same thing: the future of many great cities will be determined in the next 18 months.  That is not speculation, it is the reality of the federal stimulus package just signed into law with an enormous green energy component.  The cities ready to compete right now will win the green jobs that not only create a great economy but will help save our planet.

There is one leader, and one alone, who has already started working hard to make sure those great green jobs land in Austin.  There is one leader, and one alone in this mayoral race who will always listen even if he does not agree with what he hears.  There is one leader alone who fights every day, regardless of the political race, to keep Austin unique, sustainable, and great.  It is Brewster McCracken.  We must make a choice: do we stay a national leader among cities known for our wonderful uniqueness, great neighborhoods, low cost of living, and great ideas and jobs… or do we fade into the twilight of has-beens?”
