“Brewster McCracken is a leader who follows through and keeps his word. I also know that his vision for creating green collar jobs will create opportunities for local businesses.
My local business, Keystone Energy Management Systems, conducts energy saving retrofits in Austin homes and businesses. I can tell you from professional experience that Brewster’s plan to create green collar jobs by making Austin a national solar leader will expand opportunity for local businesses like mine.
But my support for Brewster is more personal than professional.
In June of last year, I heard Brewster speak to young artists and filmmakers in North Austin. Afterward, I approached him and asked for his help.
I told him that even though the city had promised to name the central-east police substation after my brother, Robert Martinez, Sr., the city had never carried through on this commitment.
My brother served in the Austin Police Department for over 30 years. He was one of the most decorated police officers in Texas history. He started the department’s Gang Prevention Unit, initiated the Hispanic Crimes Unit and cracked 18 homicide cold cases. In 1994, President Clinton honored him with a commendation.
Brewster told me he would get to work and he kept his word. He and the executive in his office, Rossana Barrios, kept me regularly updated, and they refused to take no for an answer. Thanks to Brewster’s leadership, the Austin Police Department honored its commitment to my brother, the Martinez family and Robert’s wife Mary Ann by formally rededicating the central-east police substation as the Robert Martinez Sr. Central East Substation and Forensic Center.
Austin needs a mayor that listens to citizens and keeps his word on issues both big and small. That’s why I’m supporting Brewster McCracken for Austin Mayor.”
